The Project

Size & Method: 600m2 of Jura Limestone paving and skirting.

Methodology: Supply and installation of matching limestone paving in shopping mall floor.

Currently the 5th largest UK shopping centre in Britain, we had to ensure that our limestone tiles were bedded to the highest level considering the 27 million visitors the centre welcomes each year.

Much care was taken to ensure that the stone paving was slip resistant to conform with the current legislation and that the limestone was well sealed to protect against staining and foot traffic.

Stages

As with many of our larger projects, we visited the quarry in Germany and undertook a stringent quality assurance procedure to make sure that the shading, tolerance and structure of the limestone paving was of a high standard and suitable for such a high traffic area.

Initially we quoted to install the 2cm thick tiles using a thin bed adhesive method but once on site we realised that the scope of work had changed with the concrete slab being at too low a level, therefore, we had to bed the tiles on a semi-dry sand and cement screed.

Due to the success of the new tiled areas, we were also instructed as a variation to replace damaged tiles within other areas of the shopping centre and helped source an additional German stone the centre required.
